Bravo Ninos Comes to the Boro

Determined Parents Help Bring Children’s Spanish Classes to the ‘Boro

Knowing the importance of introducing a second language in the formative years, a group of local mothers search everywhere for opportunities for their children but come up empty until they find a Spanish program willing to bring their classes to the ‘Boro all because of them.

Murfreesboro, TN, March 3rd – Bravo Niños Spanish classes for young children will be offering their services to kids in Murfreesboro thanks to some local Moms who refused to give up the search to find second language opportunities for their children. A seven week program begins on March 7th at the Patterson Community Center and will run through April 25th with classes held each Friday at 10am. Focusing on fun, the company uses puppets, stories, music and games to teach the children Spanish greetings, practical phrases, commands, colors, numbers, and more.

Marcia Speis is one such mother who is committed to helping her daughter further develop her Spanish language skills. Adriana, age 3, is already bilingual thanks to a Spanish speaking father, but Speis wants to ensure that she gives her daughter opportunities to develop her Spanish as much as she is developing her English skills. “I asked everyone at my daughter’s dance class and spent months pouring over local parent & other publications trying to find Spanish lessons for her. The only classes I found were in Cool Springs & Hendersonville” says Speis. “I also called and asked around about any Daycare Centers with Spanish as an extracurricular option, which no one seemed to have other than some Montessori schools” added Speis.

During Speis’ quest she found other parents who, like her, had been looking for Spanish classes. Two of those parents are Teresa Reed and Kelsie Prince whose children attend the same dance class as Speis’ daughter. They too were looking for Spanish language opportunities for their children but grew frustrated at the dead ends. Persistence paid off when Speis called and spoke with owner of Bravo Ninos, Angelique St. Clair. Based in Spring Hill TN, the company offers fun Spanish classes for children between the ages of 2-5 years old through preschools and other open enrollment facilities. At the time, they had classes in Brentwood, Franklin and Cool Springs and had not yet reached out to Murfreesboro. Well, until they heard from Speis who even offered to help put together a class of children if they would just bring the program to Murfreesboro.

According to St. Clair “The class was very small, only four children in fact, but I simply had to meet these Moms”. The classes were held right at the home of Speis and once that five week program ended, moms Teresa Reed and Kelsie Prince along with Speis were asking what’s next?

Wanting to help get regular classes started in Murfreesboro, the Mom’s and St. Clair sat down to discuss other potential facilities. They all agreed that Patterson Park Community Center would be a great place to start.

“It’s really wonderful to see parents reaching way out there to provide their children with opportunities for learning a second language. Over and over studies have shown that there absolutely is no better time to introduce a child to another language than the formative years of 2-5” says St. Clair. “Children are naturally modeling their parents and other adults as they learn their world.
